Daren and Kelly seemed to be on their best behavior. I find it amusing that Kelly brought up our wedding no less than 10 times in the less than 24 hours since she's been here. I found the best way to deal with that is not acknowledge those comments or change the subject as quickly as possible.
They arrived here at roughly 1pm, making their trip an even 10 hour trip. Finally, they understand now why we don't drive that drive in the winter. "It was horrible!" No kidding, tell me something I don't know. Honestly, they don't believe anything anyone else says until they go through it themselves. We made the trip back to Michigan more than 12 times since January 2008. I *think* we know what we're talking about here.
We hung out at the apartment for a while, where they were both extremely jealous of our great place and all our great stuff. They love the apartment (duh) and what I've done with it. We were going to grill steaks for dinner and Jack felt like a Japanese Steakhouse instead, so we went to Nakashima and they both had never been to a place like that, so they had fun.
After dinner we went to the grocery store to pick up a few things and then came back to the apartment and it wasn't even 7pm. What a long ways to go until midnight! So I made some french bread in my breadmaker and got it ready for overnight french toast while we watched movies.
Finally 12am eastern arrives and we watch the ball drop in NYC. Then we sit there for the next hour just waiting for it to be midnight here. Then, get this! We watch a RE-RUN of the ball dropping in NYC at midnight. And who did we have to see TWICE ?! Billary. *BARF* Totally lame. I'm pretty sure we got the shaft as far as excitement goes at midnight.
Anyway... here's to a great 2009.
My wishes for 2009:
- Get pregnant
- eat healthy
- grow closer to God
- grow closer to Jack
- love other people better
I better start with Daren and Kelly. Man, by the end of the day yesterday I was really struggling. By the amount of comments I had to keep from coming out of my mouth, I was an anxious wreck by the time we laid down to go to sleep at about 1am. I couldn't shut my mind off!
Things are so much different than they used to be. 3 years ago on NYE, I was wasted and falling all over Jack hanging out at one of Jack's friend's houses. Two years ago, Daren and Kelly and Jack and I were all at my apartment in Lake Orion. Last year, Daren and Kelly wouldn't have been caught DEAD with us on NYE, they weren't even speaking to us. And now this year, they drove 10 hours to come spend 2 days with us over NYE. How strange.
I feel so strange that it's 2009. I feel like 2008 went by in the biggest blur. I was married the entire year of 2008, that's a weird feeling. We have been trying to get pregnant almost a year now. We've been living in Wisconsin for almost a year. Jack will be 28 years old in 18 days and I will be 23 this February. Daren and Kelly are both turning 25 this year.
I guess I could get some coffee and start my day. I've already showered and gotten dressed and done my makeup. I hate it when people are here and I come out of the bedroom looking like I just woke up. I do my best when we have people over to not let that happen. With Jack, I don't really mind, but man... anyone else is not going to see me first thing in the morning, no way jose.

Ooohhh...I LOVE choppy-choppy houses! (Japanese steakhouses. DH calls them "choppy choppy.")
I hope your 2009 wishes come true.
